CMCO #68 I only got concussed! (Wear a helmet!)

Yesterday, Cavi decided to drop me.. it was his tenth birthday present to me. In between jumps, he was feeling well and put in a huge buck… Biggest one Husref had ever seen and really caught me off guard. I got thrown and landed on my shoulder and back.

Falling off at speed and from a good height meant that my head also bounced on the ground quite hard. Not just winded, I was well and truly concussed.

After falling off, I could not remember what day it was, what I had done that morning and only very slowly, did my memory come back to me. I must have asked Husref three times what day it is and what happened. I still don’t remember much between hitting the ground and sitting by the judge’s box.

One of the livery owners made me go to hospital to get checked out despite my protests, which was probably a good thing. I generally try to brush things off and think I am OK, but even I knew this time, I was concussed quite badly.

CT scan showed that I do have a brain, so to all you doubters out there, there is now proof! ? On a more serious note, CT scans and X rays are normal so nothing to worry about.

Today, I am lucky to just havea sore spot on the left side of my head where it hit the ground and also on my right temple, a sore thumb where I tried to hang on to his mane, a headache and some aches and pains.. and a general feeling of fuzziness. Wearing a helmet saved me from further injury, and that is why it makes me cringe to see people ride without helmets.

Accidents can happen at any time and no matter how hard you think your head is, why would you want to risk even more damage to a very vital part of your body?!

After a bad fall, your helmet should be replaced even if it doesn’t look like it is damaged as you do not know the damage inside your helmet. I hate to give up this one as it is my favourite one, but I have to now bite the bullet and find a new one!

A big thank you to Husref and everyone else who helped me and kept checking up on me. I really appreciate it.. and I am so grateful to not have more injuries.

Selamat Hari Raya to everyone, stay safe and have a  great time with your families!
